The public relations industry continues to change more and more. As technology evolves, so does the PR world. New tools are being used for clients to get their names out. People want their companies or products to be known. With the emergence of social media networks more and more public relation firms are using social networks such as Facebook and Linkedin to keep up with their audiences. When a company decides to use social networks it is because they can spread news faster through social networks. Web 2.0 platforms can help businesses build credibility, drive sales, lower operating costs, and increase brand equity. Linkedin is more for professional people rather than just friends. Linkedin is used to keep connected with certain businesses. You can even search for jobs of your specialty on Linkedin. Linkedin is a social network that connects working professionals.
Nathan Egan has five important reasons as to why PR should use social networks.

It's strange (not in a negative way) that we use technology to find jobs now. Computers and technology do all kinds of useful things for us, and it seems like something you would've heard from a sci-fi novel in the 50s. Something along the lines of, "In the future, computers will determine your job." In a way it turned out to be true, but computers are more like tools we use now for job searches.
I agree with Sara. It does sound like something sci-fi. I think it is great that we have the technology that is available to us such as Linkedin and PropenMic to help us find jobs, however I wonder if we rely too much on the internet. I am totally for utilizing the tools that are available online but I also do not think that we should neglect face to face interations because in the end, an employer will remember someone who had more personal interaction versus someone who just used the internet.
I would also have to agree that today's method for job hunting might seem a little farfetched but we can't escape the way in which things are going. For example companies that blog and use social networking sites do so to stay with the current flow as we use Web 2.0 to look for jobs. But I think the old fashion way is just as effective, so I do both.
As the others, I also agree with this post. I believe this is only the beginning. There are still a lot of jobs that do not use the internet as much. I sure hope that computers do not make the decisions, however i feel everything is subject to being digitalized
I think it is great that we have the option to find jobs online. Especially in this economy it is great to be able to use many means to find a job. I think it is important to keep the old fashioned way of job searching. I think there is something to be said for someone who doesn't completely rely on the internet to score a job.
